A. Robert Alcasabas, O.D.

Robert Alcasabas, O.D. was raised on Long Island, New York. In 1983 he graduated with a B.A. in Biology from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. He then received his doctorate in Optometry in 1988 from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Alcasabas then undertook a one year Fellowship in Primary Care/Contact Lenses at the University of Houston – College of Optometry in Houston, Texas. After a year and a half in private practice, Dr. Alcasabas then served as a captain in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Randolph Air Force Base near San Antonio, Texas.

He was appointed Chief of Contact Lens Services at Randolph AFB and also was an instructor for ophthalmology and optometry residents at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. In 1995, Dr. Alcasabas returned to civilian life and was hired as a staff optometrist for the ophthalmology center of the MacGregor Medical Association located in Houston, Texas. In 1996 Dr. Alcasabas joined CIGNA Healthcare in Houston where he stayed for four years. He then worked as a clinical professor at the University of Houston – College of Optometry. Dr. Alcasabas then started to work at his private practice at Ultimate Eyecare while still teaching at the University of Houston. In July 2003, Dr. Alcasabas started working at the Victoria Eye Center.

Dr. Alcasabas is an experienced therapeutic optometrist who is certified to treat various minor illnesses of the eyes and has extensive training in fitting specialty contact lenses. He has a background of fifteen years in LASIK evaluation and management. He has written and lectured on the behalf of various local newspapers, the U.S. Air Force, University of Houston – College of Optometry, Bausch and Lomb, Alcon, and the American Optometric Student Association. He is presently pursuing courses to be certified as a forensic optometrist.

Dr. Alcasabas likes to spend time with his wife, Kathy, and their two children, Amy and Robbie. He also enjoys swimming and doing volunteer work for local schools and his church.
